Sepp Melkus, with Frank Nutschan as co-driver, took home a class victory at the 2006 Sachsen Classic. (International Oldtimer Rally from 17. – 20.08.2006)

With a starting field of over 180 participants, Team MELKUS was on top overall after the first day of competition. By the end, the grandson of the legendary engineer and racer Heinz Melkus, was just 1.3 seconds behind (136 penalty points) from taking the overall victory. They did, of course, take victory in the strongest field (Production years 1961-1971), which had over 50 competitors.

Frank Nutschan, the former chief mechanic of racing legend Ulli Melkus, navigated Sepp Melkus through the nearly 700 km stretch containing 19 checkpoints.

The MELKUS RS1000 is currently being produced in Dresden in a limited, true-to-original series, which is dedicated to the late constructor Heinz Melkus.

Fifteen vehicles should be out by the end of 2007, with certainly enough buyers for the legendary DDR sports car. Orders for 12 are already sitting in front of production managers Peter and Sepp Melkus. The first car will be delivered in early October.
